Being from Roxbury born and raised, there is a special place in my heart for this district. Programs offered at facilities such as the John A. Shelburne Community Center and the Roxbury Boys and Girls Club provided me with an authentic sense of pride as a Roxbury native. This pride, coupled with much prayer and support from my family, has brought me to the decision to run for Representative, 7th Suffolk District.

Growing up I attended Boston Public Schools and charter schools. Although I was a dedicated athlete, I excelled academically as well, and was accepted into the Crimson Summer Academy at Harvard University. Upon completion of high school and simultaneously graduating from the Crimson Summer Academy, I continued my education earning my Bachelor’s of Science in Criminal Justice, with a minor in Law, Policy and Society from Northeastern University.

After graduating I entered my professional career as a Case Worker for Federal Inmates working to assist those nearing release with securing employment, housing and most importantly community support. While there I realized there are a host of barriers that contribute to recidivism. I grew to understand the importance of the role the state government plays in delivering valuable resources to my community.

I then had the pleasure to work as a Legislative Aide for a Massachusetts State Senator. In the role I worked to secure funding for programs like Residential Assistance for Families in Transition Program (RAFT); for community college reform, and environment friendly organizations. I have also served the community through volunteering at the Probation Department of the Roxbury Division of the Boston Municipal Court, while working full time as a professional and raising a child.

I have the ability to effectively create new and adjust existing policies in efforts to further enrich my community and I look forward to advancing the legacy of our neighborhood as your State Representative.
